With all the growing up Green Day have done over the years, it appears the trio still isn’t familiar with copyright law. A Los Angeles artist has filed a lawsuit alleging that Billie Joe Armstrong and company have infringed on his copyright. Dereck Seltzer claims that Green Day misappropriated his original “Scream Icon” artwork for use in the band’s concerts, videos and on the internet.
Responding to news of the suit on Friday, the band’s attorney Don Passman told TMZ that Green Day received the picture from a reputable outfit. “Green Day received Mr. Seltzer’s image from a responsible company and was unaware that there could be any copyright or other issues,” Passman said.
